Frank Wrathall from Garstang, Lancashire, England is an engineer by trade, a racecar driver by skill and passion, and a footballer by heart. Wrathall recently fulfilled a boyhood dream by appearing on the turf at Preston North End (PNE), although not as a footballer (soccer player), but rather as a driver, bringing with him the brand new Toyota Avensis he races in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

As a lifelong PNE supporter, the 24-year-old K&N backed racer, was invited along to the Deepdale Stadium not only to show off his BTCC Toyota, but also to help dish out the end-of-season awards to the club's players and staff at the final home match of the season.

"It was surreal finally to be on the pitch," Wrathall said. "I used to watch from the stands as a lad and longed to be out there playing, back in the days when I wanted to grow up to be a footballer and not a racing driver."

Wrathall kicked-off his kart racing career in 1998 at the age of 11, and after completing only six Cadet races, he quickly moved into junior TKM (100cc direct drive karts) competing at club level the following year.

In 2000 he graduated to yet another boarder class in Junior Gearbox (85cc 6-speed gearbox karts) and became the inaugural National Champion, taking four out of six race victories. The very next year Wrathall became the Junior Gearbox National Open Champion.

For the next eight years Wrathall continued to move up through the racing ranks, collecting honors and highlights, and with each came ever more fervor and confidence that he had indeed followed his destiny in the proper direction.

Then, in 2009 Wrathall took the next logical step, moving from the Ginetta G50 Cup, into the British Touring Car Championship. With the prestige and unrivalled media coverage, this meant an ultra-competitive field, including many established stars. Wrathall went on and produced his best season to date, showcasing his talent in front of massive crowds and TV audiences. He claimed a record 23 podiums, including five wins and 11 second places, on his way to second overall in the series.

For the 2011 season Wrathall joined the Dynojet Race Team. Team spokesperson, Robin Evans, told K&N Race News, "This is our first season in the British Touring Car Championship, and this is seen as very much a learning year for the driver, team and everyone involved."

The Dynojet Race Team, was founded by Frank Wrathall Sr., with the progression of his son Frank's racing career. Starting out as a low-key, yet particularly professionally run team, the squad has grown into what is now regarded as one of the best teams in the BTCC paddock.

The vehicle tasked with entertaining Wrathall's driving talents is the Toyota Avensis. "The car is completely new for 2011, and the first built to the 'Next Generation Touring Car' rules, and has only been racing for six weeks," added Evans. "The Avensis will be very competitive later in the season as development continues and the 'bugs' are ironed out."

The British Touring Car Championship consists of ten events (30 races), contested in both England and Scotland. Wrathall and Dynojet Race Team's next contest is June, 5 at Oulton Park.
